Factory fires have been the leading cause of these supply chain disruptions in recent years. Such blazes threaten the facility, can disrupt productivity and endanger the entire workforce. For pulp and paper mills, factory fires are an especially significant risk because of the presence of highly combustible materials such as paper dust and chemicals used in processing. High-temperature equipment, electrical faults and friction from moving parts can easily ignite these materials. Further increasing the fire hazard throughout each facility, inadequate ventilation, poor housekeeping and buildup of flammable residues. As a result, taking the necessary precautions such as using equipment capable of detecting and preventing fire prone conditions has become essential to mitigating fire risk and ensuring safe workplaces. "By prioritizing equipment maintenance, providing comprehensive training, and conducting regular safety inspections—even during periods of disruption—factories [such as pulp and paper mills] can significantly reduce the risk of fires and safeguard both employees and assets," adds John Bogart, Managing Director of Kett US, a manufacturer of moisture and organic composition analyzers.
